City officials who support the
Concourse plan would have residents
believe that their multimillion-dollar
road to nowhere is the only option
available for “revitalizing” downtown
Quincy. In fact, one councilor-at-large
was quoted in the Patriot Ledger as
saying, “it’s either this plan [the
Concourse] or the status quo.”
Such comments are not only
inaccurate, they are irresponsible. The
decline of downtown Quincy mirrored
similar downturns felt by communities
all across the country and many of
them have truly revitalized their once-
ailing downtown areas without the
wholesale destruction that is the
hallmark of the developers’ — uh, I
mean the city’s — Concourse plan.
